The Process and Design of my Piece

I began  creating a work sheet where I mind mapped ideas and outlined my brief. From this I gave myself a visual guide and map to help me design my piece.

In order to create my design I needed to first decide what information I needed to definitely have. This is not just an ad, but an information leaflet which will inform the viewer of all the necessary information.

I have decided it should contain:

The course title: Introduction to Creative Textiles
Module Duration:
Course Aims:
Application Process:
Further Information:

Visually I experimented with different ideas about how I would introduce the visual qualities of textiles into the work. For example a a washing line, spools of thread and a patchwork quilt.
I like the patchwork quilt idea and decided to use this theme to create my piece.

In order to create a patchwork of different textiles I decided to photograph a variety of different fabrics I found in the studio. I wanted to choose as large a variety of possibility to make the piece eye catching but had top be careful that text would be legible on the fabrics. Because of this I chose a couple of quite plain one's which could be used for the text and kept the rest more intricate. Below is a small selection of the photographed fabrics.

In order to use an appropriate font, because I wanted it to look like stitching, I had to go online and download a new font from  "www.fontspace.com". This is a great site and has a huge variety of free fonts which you must download to your Microsoft Word font library. This particular font is titled ZigZag.

 Introduction to Creative Textiles

I printed out all the individual squares and attached them using "paper stitches" in order to resemble a quilt.
