Current Work

More recently I have been working primarily in black and white, and shades of grey. I took a photograph and de-constructed it several times manually and on photoshop. The original image is still however very important and I have been attempting to create interesting compositions not only visually but symbolically. I create various versions of these image using as inventive materials as possible, whilst still only using black and white.  The original image and the materials have various symbolic and visual qualities. Each pieces treatment, scale or position within the series affect, change, modify or exaggerate different elements that I wish to explore. Repetition and the series still feature significantly in my work and I often find the lines between preparatory/experimental work and "final" work blur.

The first part of this piece was black ink on primed board, which is contrasted with the second part of this piece which was made using white wax on slate. The below piece was created using a stencil and smoke from a candle.
