The Process of Making my Piece

I downloaded numerous pictures relating to both Ireland and Africa. I wanted to do something interesting with all these images so I looked online for free software and found "Shape Collage". This was really simple and the software was free. I needed to to draw the outline of the country or you could also look online for clipart which was the correct shape and import it into a template. I literally dragged the photos into the template and it assembled the collage for me.

Using some of the images I downloaded and my collage I was able to use movie maker to create a slideshow of relevant images.I needed to upload this video to You tube in order to put it on my blog, but to do that I needed to create a personal You tube account. I am very glad that I have now needed to do this and it was a lot easier and user friendly than I thought it would be.
 Below is the slideshow:

Current Work

More recently I have been working primarily in black and white, and shades of grey. I took a photograph and de-constructed it several times manually and on photoshop. The original image is still however very important and I have been attempting to create interesting compositions not only visually but symbolically. I create various versions of these image using as inventive materials as possible, whilst still only using black and white.  The original image and the materials have various symbolic and visual qualities. Each pieces treatment, scale or position within the series affect, change, modify or exaggerate different elements that I wish to explore. Repetition and the series still feature significantly in my work and I often find the lines between preparatory/experimental work and "final" work blur.

The first part of this piece was black ink on primed board, which is contrasted with the second part of this piece which was made using white wax on slate. The below piece was created using a stencil and smoke from a candle.

The Crushed Bull

This exhibition, The Crushed Bull is the culmination of artistic work created by prisoners from prisons throughout Ireland and two post release centres. The works on display cover a broad variety of forms including, painting, drawing, print, photography, textiles, glass work and ceramics. I found this exhibition very interesting not only because of the variety of mediums and styles but also the educational aspect and its capacity for rehabilitation, personal development and the capacity for life long learning.
